the sculpture "Data Package" consists of square timber wrapped in tape and screewed together to a bookshelf-like structure. it was built for an exhibition in the library of the academy of fine arts in vienna 2016. i am interested in standard formats aswell as in standard procedures, which form our daily lives. buildings or doors and bookshelfs are constructed in the golden cut. documents are stored in DIN A4. which are the formats i have chosen for the artwork. its a curiosity, that man is still using the same format to save data nowadays like thousand years before. server-rooms still look like libraries and the servers like bookshelfs.
those structures have not evolved by chance, but by our way of thinking. which itself depends on language -i presume. this work is more related to language in a way, that it partially denies its true nature as an artpiece, to be an image. for me it symbolizes the fight between rationalism and aestheticism. |
